The New Orleans Saints have multiple members of their starting lineup hitting free agency this offseason, including cornerback Paulson Adebo, defensive end Chase Young, tight end Juwan Johnson, and free safety Will Harris. With the Saints looking to get younger at the safety position this offseason via draft or signing, they may end up moving on from Harris in favor of a different player.
With this being a possibility, it is the point in the offseason where we can take a look at some potential fits for the veteran safety, and reasons why they may be good landing spots. So without further ado, here are four teams who may be interested, and why:
Miami Dolphins
Cap Space: $25,144,955
The Miami Dolphins have quite the predicament when it comes to the safety position, as one of their best draft selections in recent years is becoming a free agent, that being Jevon Holland. In addition, their other starting safety Jordan Poyer, and backup Elijah Campbell are also free agents this offseason, so their safety depth is essentially none. With only $25 million in cap space, they may have to cut down on large extensions and focus on quality starters rather than elite talents, and Harris would be a strong pickup to fill the gap without breaking the bank.
Denver Broncos
Cap Space: $40,201,255
The Denver Broncos are a bit of a different story comparatively, as they have most of their safeties retained aside from Devon Key, but the starting spot alongside Brandon Jones is up for grabs this offseason more than likely. Despite a solid season tackling from P.J. Locke, he truly struggled in coverage, allowing 40 completions for 484 yards and 4 touchdowns on a 74.1% completion rate, equivalent to a 125.8 passer rating. Finding someone to solidify up that second safety spot would be hugely beneficial to Sean Payton and company, which Harris may be a quality option for.
Las Vegas Raiders
Cap Space: $50,994,247
The Las Vegas Raiders have a strong need in the secondary this offseason, considering many of their top players are becoming free agents. Additionally, they hired Marcus Robertson and Joe Woods from the Saints’ secondary staff this offseason, who helped get the best out of Harris last season. This may be the best schematic fit in free agency for the veteran safety, as he would get a chance to team up with coaches he just worked for in 2024. The Raiders likely will not be able to retain all their talent at the asking price, so they may turn to a serviceable option instead that can fill the gap for some time.
Indianapolis Colts
Cap Space: $40,363,239
The Indianapolis Colts are more of a choice based on depth than anything, as their 2024 starters are not free agents, but multiple key backups are with Trevor Denbow and Ronnie Harrison Jr. hitting the open market. With that, having a third option that can rotate in and produce quality snaps for the team is a net positive. While it may not seem immensely important, and it may not seem like the best opportunity for Harris, it gives him a chance to settle in with a new team and if someone goes down with injury, he can rotate in.
