The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms on a contract with pending free agent linebacker Dre Greenlaw, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini first reported on Monday night. The three-year deal is worth $35 million, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Greenlaw’s contract will not become official until the NFL’s new league year begins on Wendesday.
Greenlaw (6-0, 230 pounds) originally entered the league as a fifth-round pick out of Arkansas with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019. He spent the last six seasons with the 49ers, totaling 455 tackles, 14 pass breakups, 3.5 sacks and three interceptions in 64 career games.
Greenlaw missed most of the 2021 season with a groin injury and all but two games last season while recovering from an Achilles injury. Denver is taking a chance that the linebacker is now healthy and poised to bounce back in 2025.
After letting Cody Barton walk in free agency, the Broncos now have Greenlaw, Alex Singleton, Drew Sanders, Levelle Bailey and K.J. Cloyd at linebacker in 2025. Singleton is coming off a torn ACL and Sanders is yet to win a starting role, but he could be a candidate to make a leap this fall. Greenlaw will fill one of the two starting spots.
