In a surprise development, the Street Profits will not be defending their titles at WrestleMania 41, but the night before.
During Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown, it was announced that the Street Profits would defend their WWE Tag Team Championships against Motor City Machine Guns next week on SmackDown. The match will likely be the main event of the show, which is a “go-home” show ahead of WrestleMania.
The move comes as a bit of a surprise, as reports this week noted that WWE was considering having them perform at the premium live event itself. However, a WWE World Tag Team Championship match — War Raiders vs. The New Day — was announced instead.
The match was confirmed along with a backstage segment featuring the reigning champs. There, they said that MCMG didn’t want the smoke, but were promptly interrupted by The Miz and Carmelo Hayes. The foursome went back and forth for a bit, before Miz and Hayes said they wanted the smoke, and an eventual title shot.
What do you think about this? Should the Street Profits have been performing at WrestleMania 41? Are you excited for their title defense on SmackDown? Let us know in the comments below.
