Former Commanders DT Jonathan Allen signs three-year, $60 million contract with Vikings

The 30-year-old defensive tackle was a staple of the Washington defensive core, generating 42.0 sacks over eight seasons. He played in just eight regular-season games last season due to a pectoral injury, netting three sacks, but was able to return to close the season and the Commanders’ playoff run.

Allen overlapped with Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell for three seasons in Washington (2017-19).

The big-money addition provides needed beef to the Vikings’ interior. Pairing Allen on the inside with edge rushers Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner makes Brian Flores’ defensive front even scarier for quarterbacks. Minnesota later piled on in the trenches even further, finalizing big deals with free-agent guard Will Fries and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, per Rapoport and Pelissero.
