Titans punter Ryan Stonehouse to hit the free agent market

The agent for punter Ryan Stonehouse has told the Denver Gazette that the Tennessee Titans will not be tendering the punter. This is pretty surprising considering the promise Stonehouse has shown in his three years with the team. He has one of the biggest legs in all of football.

There are four different levels of tenders teams can offer players who have an expiring contract and at least three years of service in the NFL. The cheapest, which is what most of us thought the Titans would offer Stonehouse, is called a right-of-first-refusal tender. That would give the Titans the right to match any offer that was made to Stonehouse. If no one offered him, he would have been on a 1-year contract at $2.985 million.

This is good news for Stonehouse because he will definitely get a lot more guaranteed money than that on the open market.

As for the Titans, it’s hard to say what their plan is here. Look, you hope the punter isn’t that important to your team, but let’s be honest, they are probably going to be calling on that guy quite a bit in 2025.
