WLOS — A text scam involving toll fees is claiming victims throughout Western North Carolina.
Many WNC drivers have reported receiving texts claiming to be from North Carolina Toll Services, threatening a late fee of $50 if drivers don’t pay the toll by following the link in the text.
The text further claims to be the final reminder of the payment and poses as organizations such as E-ZPass, EZDriveMA and FasTrak.

Drivers are instructed to never click on the link included in the text, as this is a way for scammers to access their devices.
Additionally, the state’s toll services want to remind drivers that toll fees will never be sent via text, only through letters.
