The Boston Celtics inched closer to the 50-win mark on Monday night, securing a 114-108 victory over the Utah Jazz. Boston’s latest win was fueled by a historic performance from Sam Hauser, who erupted for a career-high 33 points, including a franchise-record seven three-pointers in the third quarter alone.
However, the Celtics once again had to manage without two of their key starters. Jayson Tatum missed the game due to a knee injury sustained after his 40-point performance against the Lakers, while Kristaps Porzingis sat out his sixth consecutive game as he continues to recover from a lingering viral illness.

Ahead of Monday’s game, Porzingis took to social media to provide fans with an update on his condition.
“I have been dealing with some viral illness that we haven’t been able to fully identify yet,” Porzingis wrote on X. “I am recovering and getting better. But still working my way back to full strength to help this team. Thanks for the support, and I’m hoping for a healthy return soon.”
Following Boston’s win over Utah, head coach Joe Mazzulla was asked about Porzingis’ statement and gave additional insight into the big man’s recovery process.
“I think he said it best,” Mazzulla said. “At the end of the day, we just want to make sure he’s safe. He’s still able to come in and be around the guys as best he can and try to stay in the best shape possible. He’s been on the court, he’s doing what he can to get back. But he kind of said it best—we just have to make sure he’s good and do what’s best for him.”
Porzingis has not played since Boston’s win over the Toronto Raptors on Feb. 25 and remains questionable for Wednesday’s highly anticipated matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The 7-foot center was an integral part of the Celtics title run last season, and will play an important role on the team in the postseason. Currently averaging 18.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while shooting 47.4% from the field in 32 games, Boston will be hoping to have him back at full strength as they look to defend their championship.
