COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 10TV Weather Impact Alert Day has been issued for Saturday due to the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms.
A Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for central Ohio ahead of the storms. The advisory will remain in effect through most of Saturday, lasting until 8 p.m.
There will be two separate rounds that will impact the area on Saturday. The first line of scattered showers and some strong storms that rolls through Saturday morning, bringing mostly rain but some risk for gusty storms to the region. These will be mostly non-severe storms, but we can’t rule out the threat of something gustier entirely.
Most of the severe weather risk with this first round will be confined further to the west, with severe weather expected late Friday and early Saturday over the border into Indiana.

Then a second and stronger round of showers and storms pushes through Saturday afternoon and evening, lasting into the morning hours of Sunday. This system will start out with strong to possibly severe storms Saturday afternoon and evening, with most being done after 10 pm. These storms are looking like a mainly wind-driven threat, but hail and possible tornadoes cannot be ruled out either.
From here we move to what will likely be our biggest concern with these storms, in the form of heavy, potentially flooding, rains that will take over after 8 pm and last through part of Sunday. With this system, we are expecting around 1 to 2+ inches of new rainfall around Central Ohio, with the hardest hit areas going over the 2 inch mark.
This has prompted a level 1 of 4 risk for flooding across most of the region, with higher flooding risks to the southwest of Columbus.

In addition to the threat of strong winds with our storms, winds in general will be very strong this weekend. These winds at times on Saturday will see gusts up to and over 40 mph.
Following the storms Saturday, temps will take a hit. Highs on Saturday will still reach well into the 70s, falling to the 60s on Sunday, and 50s by Monday.
Make sure you stay weather aware this weekend!
