With just weeks remaining in the regular season, the New Jersey Devils (36-25-6) will look to claw their way up the playoff ladder, while the Pittsburgh Penguins (27-31-10) hope to go on a last-minute run to sneak into the postseason.

The Devils come in on a three-game winning streak, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Edmonton Oilers over the last week. They boast one of the league’s best defenses, allowing the fourth-fewest goals in the NHL (169). They’re still reeling from the loss of 23-year-old phenom Jack Hughes, who went on injured reserve in early March, ending his season with 27 goals and 43 assists.
In sharp contrast to New Jersey, the Penguins have one of the league’s poorest defenses, allowing 242 goals (31st of 32 NHL teams). They are still captained by 37-year-old Sidney Crosby (23 goals, 49 assists) and have gotten help from Rickard Rakell (30 goals) and Bryan Rust (22) on the offensive side. All three goaltenders have a GAA above 3.00 and a save percentage below .900, showing why it’s been a tough season for the Pens.
This is the third of four meetings this season for the Devils and Penguins, with the Devils winning both of the first two. They will play again in New Jersey on April 11th.
