An Iconic Anime Protagonist is Joining Dead By Daylight as the Game’s Newest Killer

Dead by Daylight is taking a trip into the world of anime to source out its next addition to its lengthy roster. Ken Kaneki, the main protagonist of Tokyo Ghoul, will be Dead by Daylight‘s newest Killer. Ken Kaneki won’t be coming alone, though. Several new costumes and masks inspired by Tokyo Ghoul will also be added to the game.

Ken Kaneki might seem like a bit of an awkward addition, especially as a Killer, but Dead by Daylight will be reimagining the character to fit the game better. Dead by Daylight is no stranger to making collaborations work by any means possible, and a lot of attention has very clearly gone into making Kaneki feel perfectly unique in the game. Ken Kaneki will be joining Dead by Daylight on Apr. 2, 2025.

Ken Kaneki Is The Ghoul

A Reimagining of Tokyo Ghoul’s Main Protagonist

Ken Kaneki is a half-human, half-Ghoul hybrid, thanks to an organ transplant that ultimately was needed to save his life. In Dead by Daylight, however, Kaneki is a broken version of himself. With his mind pushed well past its breaking point, Kaneki has effectively renounced his humanity in this interpretation of the character. He has been consumed entirely by the dark ghoulish desires deep within him.

Kaneki could have been a survivor, but the team behind Dead by Daylight really wanted to lean into the horror elements of Tokyo Ghoul. For them, there was no better way to do that than by using a broken version of Ken Kaneki — one that would embrace the cruel, terrifying nature of his abilities. It definitely works because Ken Kaneki as The Ghoul definitely brings plenty of terror.

Fast, agile, and brutal are a few fitting words that Dead by Daylight‘s creative director used to describe this interpretation of Kaneki. Players will be able to use The Ghoul’s Kagune abilities for the sake of pure evil.

A blood lusted Kaneki is utterly terrifying. The Ghoul promises to deliver a terrifying and thrilling experience for both survivors and fans of Tokyo Ghoul. Ken Kaneki’s twisted transformation will debut in Dead by Daylight on Apr. 2, 2025.
