The Celtics will be shorthanded as they face the Heat at 7 p.m. Friday in Miami, missing two starters. Jaylen Brown (knee) and Kristaps Porzingis (illness) were both downgraded to out before the game.
However, the Celtics did upgrade three rotation players on the injury report to available. Derrick White, Jayson Tatum and Al Horford are all in for Friday’s game. The Celtics face the Nets at 6 p.m. Saturday in Brooklyn for the second game of a back-to-back, so expect them to rest some of their guys.
Porzingis will miss his eighth straight game with his illness. While he went through shootaround Friday in Miami, he’ll again sit due to his viral illness. Brown is likely getting a maintenance day, though he’s been dealing with minor injuries throughout the season. The Celtics star revealed he felt great going into the Thunder game, though he didn’t play up to his standards.
The Celtics have 16 games left in the regular season and 13 of those are against teams with a losing record. The schedule eases up, and considering the Celtics’ standing in the East at 47-19, they’ll likely rest their guys for the final stretch of the season. The Heat are currently 29-36 and bring in a five-game losing streak to Friday’s game as they’ve struggled in the post-Jimmy Butler era.
