The Boston Red Sox open their season Thursday on the road against the Texas Rangers in Arlington, Texas. The Sox have improved their pitching, defense and line-up. Fans will see one of the most exciting Opening Day rosters Boston has had in a while. There are two new faces on the infield — 30-year-old Gold Glove winner Alex Bregman will be at third base, and rookie Kristian Campbell will begin at second base.Starting on the bump is lefty Garrett Crochet. He does not have a long-term deal, but the Sox hope he’ll go long into games. That’s also because their bullpen is the least settled part of this new roster. “He was very vocal about how he felt. We made a decision — Alex is going to play third, Raffy is going to DHG. We all are in the winning business, and he understands that,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said.Cora put to rest questions about how Rafael Devers and Bregman will split time at third. Devers will start as designated hitter, a position he’s occasionally played since breaking into the Majors in 2017.The rest of the lineup includes Triston Casas, Trevor Story, Willy Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Connor Wong. The first pitch is at 4 p.m. The home opener is one week from Friday at Fenway Park.
