Broncos miss out on TE Juwan Johnson in NFL free agency

Sean Payton has brought many former New Orleans Saints players (and coaches) with him to the Denver Broncos, but tight end Juwan Johnson won’t be joining that list.

Johnson, 28, is re-signing with the Saints, according to his agent, AJ Vaynerchuk. The three-year deal is worth $30.75 million and includes $21.25 guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

That takes one of the top pending free agent tight ends off the board for the Broncos, who desperately need to add a playmaker at the position this offseason. With Johnson no longer available, all attention will now turn toward Evan Engram.

Engram, 30, went to dinner with Denver’s brass on Sunday night and then had a long visit at the team’s facility on Monday, but he left without a contract. It’s unclear what prevented a deal, but it seems safe to assume the two sides have a difference in valuation.

It’s possible that Engram could remain a target for the Broncos, but as of now, Payton is yet to secure a tight end for young quarterback Bo Nix in 2025.
