Did Alex Ovechkin score? No, but he did stay hot with three assists.

Plus: Aliaksei Protas’ first career hat trick? Aliaksei Protas first career hat trick!

Also of note tonight: both Tom Wilson and Jakob Chychrun hit career highs in points tonight. Wilson’s first period assist brought him to 53 points on the season, one better than the previous high of 52 he set in 2021-2022. Chychrun’s second period assist marked point 42 for the year, eclipsing his 2020-2021 (Coyotes) and 2023-2024 (Senators) totals.

Minus: Despite scoring the first goal of the game, the Washington Capitals have clearly not shaken their slow start issues. After Dylan Strome opened the scoring 2:01 after puck drop, the Anaheim Ducks scored two goals in 29 seconds three minutes later.

Our Three Stars:

* Aliaksei Protas (3G)

** Pierre-Luc Dubois (1G, 2A)

*** Anthony Beauvillier (1G, first goal with Washington)
