Game Thread: White Sox at Red Sox

Let’s start by addressing the story of the day: Our new, power-packed energy wad of a middle infielder, Chase Meidroth, has been called up for the series against his former and drafting team, magically, just one day after a full season in the majors won’t result in the White Sox losing a year of player control.

Meidroth was sent down to Charlotte in the spring, told by Will Venable to swing more. Putting aside whether that is the best advice fore a high-OBP grinder, Meidroth took that advice to some heart, powering three homers in just 40 plate appearances with the Knights, while still walking eight times against five Ks. His slash is .267/.450/.600, and given that those latter numbers double most of the regulars in the White Sox lineup, Meidroth could be quite a breath of fresh air. We’ll see.

Of course, THIS is the team he’s joining, so no miracles are on the horizon:

Yes, that graphic says “leaders.” And it confirms that Miguel Vargas is hitting the ball hardest on the team without managing a single barrel in all his contact this season; seems impossible, unless you take into account the utter wiffleballery of this Chicago offense.

Davis Martin hopes his odd-numbered starts are the magic ones, as he takes on a very beatable opponent. White Sox bullpen aside, this matchup has the makings of an 11-8 tilt. How in this era does Davis Martin have just four Ks in two starts?

Here are your lineups tonight:

Game time is 6:40 p.m. CT at CHSN and on ESPN radio.
