Atlanta Hawks vs Brooklyn Nets NBA Sunday Preview

The Nets face off against the Hawks in a Pace Up spot for Brooklyn on Sunday evening.

The Nets have just ruled out Cam Thomas for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury. While this makes the offense a bit worse, it also opens things up for the rest of the team.

Cam Johnson should slot in as a primary offensive option for Brooklyn, who continues to play their best players their typical allotment of minutes rather than focus on player development.

When Cam Thomas is off the floor, Cam Johnson sees his scoring rise from 26.8 points per 100 to 31.7. He also sees his assists climb from 4.1 to 5.2 per 100, per pbpstats.

The ball is moving more fluidly for Brooklyn without Cam Thomas, and it sticks a bit less, which opens up more opportunities for the entire squad. He has exceeded this line in 52% of games this season without Cam Thomas, and is averaging 23.4 Points + Assists.

In this game where Atlanta can speed them up, I’ll back Cam Johnson.

Best Bet: Cam Johnson Over 22.5 Points + Assists (-110)

Hawks vs Nets Betting Predictions

By Bruce Marshall

Word that top scorer Cam Thomas is out again shouldn’t be regarded as the worst news for the Nets.

That’s because Brooklyn was winless in the six games since Thomas made his recent return to active duty, so word that a hamstring strain likely keeps him out the rest of the season has a different consequence, as Jordi Fernandez had his team playing at a slower pace and sharing the ball more effectively minus a heavy ball-usage force like Thomas.

Remember, in February, the Nets had a 7-2 SU stretch minus-Thomas.

Without Thomas, Brooklyn also pushed the Celtics to the wall on Saturday, while the Hawks’ recent uptick was derailed on Friday in a heavy home loss to the Clippers. Play Nets.

Pick: Nets +6.5 (-110)
