After 167 days, the Detroit Tigers are back in action for 2025 MLB Opening Day.
The team will open up things up on the road inside Dodger Stadium when they take on the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodger in the second game of a doubleheader on ESPN.
Despite a rough start to their season last year, the Tigers were able to turn things around midway through and secure a playoff spot for the first time since 2014. Detroit swept the Houston Astros in the American League wild-card round to advance to the ALDS, where they faced off against the Cleveland Guardians. The Tigers lost the series 3-2, ending their incredible season.
In the offseason, Detroit signed pitcher Jack Flahtery to a two-year, $35 million contract, along with other free agents that include Alex Cobb, Gleyber Torres and Tommy Kahnle.

While Detroit looks to build off the momentum from the second half of the season, the Dodgers will look to etch themselves in the history books. Los Angeles could become the first team in two decades to repeat as champions, since the New York Yankees three-peated from 1998-2000. They could also win their third championship in five years, bringing their franchise total to nine.
Here’s what to know about the Tigers’ season opener against the Dodgers:
