The North Carolina Tar Heels didn’t live up to expectations this season, despite having a roster brimming with talent, led by veteran guard RJ Davis and key returners Seth Trimble, Elliot Cadeau, and Jae’Lyn Withers.
After barely securing the last bid into the NCAA Tournament, they initially showed promise as a potential threat in the First Four against San Diego State. However, they followed it up with an extremely poor performance in the first round against the Ole Miss Rebels, who have since advanced to the Sweet 16.
Now, with the NCAA transfer portal officially open and the Tar Heels’ season over, head coach Hubert Davis, who recently signed a two-year extension through 2030, received some unfortunate roster news on Tuesday. Starting guard and expected lead ball handler for next season, Elliot Cadeau, announced that he will be leaving Chapel Hill and entering the transfer portal.
He reportedly entered the portal with a “do not contact” tag. With two years of eligibility remaining, Cadeau is expected to receive heavy interest this offseason from a variety of programs looking to bolster their rosters.
Cadeau’s biggest issue has been his inability to shoot consistently, a struggle that dates back to his freshman season with the Tar Heels. While he has improved his numbers across the board, his overall fit and role will be crucial for whichever team he ultimately commits to.

Last season, the 6-foot-1 guard averaged 9.4 points, 6.2 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. He shot 44.5% from the field and 33.7% from beyond the arc, marking a notable improvement from the 18.9% he posted as a freshman. Additionally, he shot 67.0% from the free-throw line.
