Inter Miami will try to maintain their good run at the start of the MLS season when they face Charlotte FC, in a match in which both teams have started in the same way.

The match is part of Matchday 3 of the 2025 MLS season, and both teams have the same record of one win and one draw, although Inter Miami has had more activity due to its commitments in the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Argentine star Lionel Messi is expected to be back in the starting lineup after more than a week out due to injury, but even so, the team coached by Javier Mascherano obtained good results after thrashing Houston Dynamo 4-1 in MLS, and defeated Jamaican side Cavalier 2-0 in the regional club tournament.

“Leo is much better,” said Mascherano. “As I always say and more so before an MLS game, when we have one more training session, we will evaluate him. We are optimistic that, if all goes well, there is a chance that he will be on the list for the game.”

In their debut in the American soccer season, they drew 2-2 against New York City FC, before thrashing the Dynamo.

While Charlotte also drew 2-2 in the season opener against the Seattle Sounders, and subsequently beat Atlanta United 2-0.

In addition, the “Herons” will be looking for their first home win of the year, where they are on a nine-game unbeaten streak at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

After a week away, Messi is expected to return to Inter Miami’s starting lineup alongside Uruguayan goalscorer Luis Suarez, who had a great game against Houston by scoring a goal and totaling three assists.
