Tight end Juwan Johnson and the New Orleans Saints agreed to terms on a three-year deal worth $30.75 million, according to a league source. The team that signed Johnson as an undrafted free agent and worked to convert him to tight end will bring him back under Kellen Moore’s offense.

Johnson was the top tight end on the free-agent market and ranked No. 13 overall on The Athletic’s updated list of the top 150 free agents. The 28-year-old is coming off his best season in which he posted career highs in receptions (50), receiving yards (548), targets (66) and catch percentage (75.8). He also played in every game for the first time in his career.
The New Orleans Saints signed Johnson, a former wide receiver who played his college ball at Penn State and Oregon, as an undrafted free agent in 2020. The team then worked to convert Johnson to tight end — taking advantage of his athleticism, long strides, large catch radius (6-foot-4 and 231 pounds with 34 1/4-inch arms) and big-play ability in the open field.
Johnson brings with him a knack for making plays in the red zone. His 18 receiving touchdowns since 2021 are tied for the eighth most by a tight end. In five seasons with the Saints, he totaled 146 receptions for 1,622 yards and an average of 11.1 yards per reception.
