Nick Jonas’ Co-Star Auditioned for ‘Camp Rock’ Decades Before Working With Him on Broadway

Adrienne Warren is currently starring in The Last Five Years on Broadway with Nick Jonas, yet the pair could have worked together decades earlier.

In an appearance Thursday, March 13 on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Tony Award-winning actress revealed that she auditioned for a Disney Channel musical in 2008 that featured Nick and his brother Kevin, and starred brother Joe Jonas.

On the Tonight Show, Fallon asked Warren if she’d ever crossed paths with Nick Jonas before. “No, I mean, of course I watched him when I was growing up on the Disney Channel, because who didn’t?”

“We’ve never crossed paths,” she added. “But, when I was a kid, I did audition for Camp Rock. I didn’t get it but that’s OK because I did my own little rock ‘n’ roll show later,” she said, referring to Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, for which she won the Tony Award in 2020 for best actress in a musical.

Although Nick Jonas is best known for his music career with the Jonas Brothers, he has also performed on Broadway in five different productions over the years, beginning in 2001 when he played Little Jake in Annie Get Your Gun.

“I did a bunch of shows as a kid,” he told Fallon. “So this is my second time coming back since being an adult and this is just a dream role.”

Previews of The Last Five years begin March 18 before the show opens on April 6 at the Hudson Theatre. The musical tells the story of a five-year relationship between novelist Jamie Wellerstein and struggling actress named Cathy Hiatt.

The musical was inspired by writer Jason Robert Brown’s real-life marriage and divorce with struggling actress Theresa O’Neill. Initially, the musical spawned a lawsuit because Brown had agreed not to use their story for fodder for a musical. The pair later settled the legal matter after he agreed to take all Irish references out of the musical, per the New York Post.
