Good Burger star Jan Schwieterman has sadly died at the age of 52.
The Nickelodeon star, who played Kurt Bozwell in the film, had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer shortly before his death. He died at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri, according to his obituary.
Jan died on February 28, with his family now sharing the news with fans. “It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my brother, Jan (JP) Schwieterman,” his brother Chad Schwieterman wrote on Facebook. Chad added, “He recently found out he had an aggressive form of stage 4 cancer.” Jan’s death is said to have been a “shock” to his family and friends.
“Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time. Rest in peace, brother. We love you and miss you,” Chad added. “Thank you, everyone, for your support. We miss JP deeply and appreciate your thoughts and prayers.”

People have been paying tribute to Jan. “So shocked with this news and saddened of this news. Thanks for sharing those memories in pictures,” one person commented on Chad’s post.
Another remembered, “He was a light.” A third posted, “So sad and what a shock. Such a free-spirited young man. Thanks Chad for sharing these great memories. Cherish them.”
Before his Hollywood career, Jan was a “proud” Eagle Scout. However, he moved to Los Angeles shortly after high school so he could pursue his dreams of becoming an actor.
He starred in a number of TV shows including ER, Forever and McKenna. Jan then shot to fame when he was cast as Kurt Bozwell in Good Burger. His character was the owner of a rival fast-food restaurant and he starred opposite Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell.
The actor went on to appear as a guest star in Felicity and worked on a number of other projects before taking a seven-year hiatus from the film industry after 2000. His last film credit was in 2008’s Along the Way.
As well as acting, Jan loved to travel. “He has traveled to many countries throughout his life, most recently to Thailand. He was an artist of photography and painting. He studied martial arts and loved playing Dungeons and Dragons,” his obituary said.
Jan is survived by his mom Clara Reed, dad LeeRoy Schwieterman, sisters Megan and Vanessa, his brother Chad and his nieces, nephews and cousins. His family held a memorial mass for him on March 4.
