ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ Today: Hints And Answers For Wednesday, March 12By Kris HoltHey there! I hope you’re having a fantastic week so far.

One of my favorite things to do when I’m at my computer and I’m bored is to click a bookmark that takes me to a random article on Wikipedia. It’s fun, and you never know what might pop up. You can learn all kinds of new things. Just bookmark this link if you want to try it yourself. (You can count this as an extra recommendation for today!)

The random Wikipedia article button reminds me of a service I absolutely loved called StumbleUpon. Clicking the “Stumble” button would take you to a semi-randomized webpage that was based on your interests. It was supremely enjoyable and introduced me to all kinds of strange and wonderful corners of the internet. A successor service called Mix is still around, but it’s not quite the same. Miss you always, StumbleUpon.

Before we begin, I’ve set up a discussion group for NYT Connections and this column on Discord. We have a great little community over there and we chat about more than NYT games. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot.

It’s also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare(!) occasions that I mess something up since I don’t look at the comments or Twitter much.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Thursday, March 13, are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT website or Games app.

You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication’s Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.

Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my hints for each grid via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are…

  • Yellow group — partiality (ANGLE, BIAS, SLANT, SPIN)
  • Green group — signal down, as a taxi (FLAG, HAIL, WAVE, WHISTLE)

A perfect game brings me up to 16 wins in a row. Here’s how I fared:

🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟪🟪🟪🟪

🟩🟩🟩🟩

I got the poker terms immediately. Thanks, me in my early 20s for watching countless hours of World Poker Tour! Blues, done.

The yellows were next, though I would contend that ANGLE, SLANT and SPIN aren’t necessarily markers of partiality. They could just be certain perspectives on something. For instance, I just pitched my editors on an ANGLE for how to cover a certain new game. In that sense, it just means an approach.

I also would argue that there’s no such thing as truly impartial news. Every story, report, blog post, TV news segment and so on is constructed by writers, reporters and editors who make choices (conscious or otherwise) about what to include and how to structure it based on their experiences, knowledge and intended outcome of their work. Transparency about those perspectives and partiality is what’s actually important in determining how trustworthy a news source is. There’s no such thing as pure objectivity. Some food for thought.

Anyway, I spotted what I assumed were the greens next, but submitted the purples first even though I didn’t get the connection. It’s a bit of a nebulous one, though I suppose that THOU might have been enough of a clue for some folks.

The greens were clear enough, and that helped me wrap up a perfect game.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Friday’s game if you need them.

P.S. I think this is the only song that’s on both my giant, all-purpose upbeat playlist and one I listen to when I’m trying to sleep. I’m not sure where I first heard “Sold Out” by Raithe Lawrence, but I’ve listened to it a ton over the last couple of years.

It’s such a neat tune with cool instrumentation, including video game-y synths, and I can listen to it no matter what kind of mood I’m in. I really love this smooth jam:

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
