Drake coach Ben McCollum has reportedly emerged as a top candidate to be the next IU basketball coach.
According to longtime college basketball reporter Jeff Goodman, the 43-year-old McCollum has “has emerged as one of the top candidates for the Indiana opening and has really impressed Indiana AD Scott Dolson.”
McCollum has led Drake to a 30-3 record and an NCAA tournament bid in his first season at the Division I level.
The Bulldogs have won seven straight games, including a 63-48 win against Bradley in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament championship game.
An Iowa native, McCollum won four national championships at the Division II level at Northwest Missouri State.
McCollum made the NCAA Division II tournament 12 times in 15 seasons at Northwest Missouri State. In the 2018-19 season, Northwest Missouri State went a perfect 38-0.
