Strade Bianche 2025 Start Times And How To Watch

The Strade Bianche may have a short history compared to some of the events on the UCI cycling calendar, but the annual trek across the Tuscany region of Italy continues to grow in prestige.

The event, which first was held in 2007, now is significant enough to earn the attention of some of the sport’s top riders, including sensation Tadej Pogacar of Slovenia, who will return in 2025 looking to add yet another milestone to his growing resume.

When Pogacar and his fellow competitors hit the start line in Italy on Saturday, he’ll be aiming to become the second rider to win the race three times, as well as the first to win in back-to-back years.

Pogacar, a three-time winner of the famed Tour de France, won the one-day Strade Bianche in 2022 and 2024. He is looking to join Switzerland’s Fabian Cancellara (2008, 2012, 2016), but he’s not the only two-time winner looking to make history this year.

Poland’s Michal Kwiatkowski also won the race two times (2014, 2017), and he’s scheduled to be one of the seven INEOS Grenadiers riders at the 2024 event.

The journey across Siena this year will span 213 kilometers, taking the riders through many sectors of challenging gravel, along with some climbing that definitely will test them.

The men’s field will include 25 teams (18 UCI world teams and seven UCI pro teams), with each featuring seven riders.

Among the other contenders will be 2023 champion Tom Pidcock of the United Kingdom, Mikel Landa (Spain), Richard Carapaz (Ecuador), David Gaudu (France), Magnus Cort (Denmark) and Marc Hirschi (Switzerland).

And, as has been the tradition since 2015, there also will be a women’s version of the Strade Bianche, which will take the them on a 136-kilometer trip full of gravel and climbing – just not as much as the men’s field.

The women’s category will feature riders from 24 teams (15 UCI women’s world teams, four UCI pro teams and five Italian women’s continental teams).

Two women have won the Strade Bianche twice – Annemiek van Vleuten of the Netherlands (2019, 2020) and defending champion Lotte Kopecky of Belgium (2022, 2024). Neither will be racing this year, however.

The field will include past champions Elisa Longo Borghini of Italy (2017) and Anna van der Breggen (2018) and Demi Vollering of the Netherlands (2023).
