Survivor 48: Why Jeff Probst Is Seen Crying in New Episode

Survivor 48 host Jeff Probst is seen crying in the upcoming episode, and fans have come up with the possible reason of him being emotional. In the sneak peek of the upcoming Wednesday episode, the caption says, “In 48 seasons, there has never been an episode of Survivor like this.”

Here’s why Jeff Probst could be crying in Survivor 48

In a rare emotional moment, Survivor host Jeff Probst seems to be crying in Wednesday’s new episode. Fans believe the Emmy-winning TV host is emotional because of a participant’s vulnerable moment in the show (via The Direct).

Speculating what could be the reason behind Probst’s tears, a fan posted on Reddit, “Eva was shown having a panic attack at the challenge; the other players will help her finish the challenge, and Jeff will cry.”

Another viewer has taken the theory further, stating, “If I can bet even further, Joe will try and help her first, his team will get mad at him, Eva reveals she has autism, then everyone feels bad and helps her.”

While the Eva Erickson angle is possible, others also supported the theory that survivors may give up their remaining SiTDs for the second season in a row, making it an emotional moment for Probst. For context, SiTDs refers to a game mechanic, “Shot in the Dark.” The special game mechanic was introduced in the show’s 41st season.

As part of SiTD, the castaway members have a 1 in 6 chance of being safe from elimination by playing a “Shot in the Dark” scroll instead of voting at Tribal Council. The SiTD effectively sacrifices their right to vote.

The upcoming Survivor Season 48 episode will premiere on Wednesday, March 26. The episode is already generating buzz as its title says, “Master Class in Deception.” The official synopsis has also teased about the tension that “one castaway’s frustrations” will bring.

As per the synposis, “Loose lips sink ships when one castaway’s frustrations put a wedge between them and their tribe. A shared meal breeds connection between tribemates as they discuss race and heritage. Then, an emotional immunity challenge brings two adversaries closer than ever imagined, on SURVIVOR.”

Meanwhile, the 48th season of Survivor premiered on February 26, 2025, on CBS. Eighteen participants have joined the show’s 2025 edition. The filming of the current season took place in the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji.
