Now an injury delay with 1:34 in the second overtime. Cal leads by 7.

Double overtime for Cal and Virginia Tech. Put a pot of coffee on. Cal currently up eight with 1:46 left in the second extra period so…. hopefully we won’t have a third.

We’ll have your updates as soon as things get underway. The ACC Network announcers are blaming Jim Boeheim, ribbing him about six overtimes.

The Syracuse men’s basketball team (13-18. 7-13 ACC) heads to the ACC tournament in Charlotte needing its best win of the season just to escape the first round against the Seminoles (17-14, 8-12).

Florida State is the No. 11 seed in the ACC tournament, while Syracuse is No. 14.

The Orange have just one win against a team ranked in Ken Pomeroy’s top 100 this season, a home win against No. 93 Notre Dame.

This game will be on a neutral floor against the No. 87 team in Pomeroy’s rankings.

Florida State’s strength is its length. Pomeroy rates the Seminoles as the fourth-tallest team in the country, with FSU often playing a lineup in which every player on the floor is listed as at least 6-foot-7.

That helps the Seminoles block shots and create a lot of steals, but it leaves them vulnerable to giving their opponents chances at the free throw line. They are also strangely susceptible to surrendering offensive rebounds.

Neither team has shot the ball well from behind the 3-point line this season, although Lucas Taylor’s recent hot stretch has helped the Orange.

Florida State dominated the first game between the two teams back on Jan. 4, earning a 90-74 win. Despite its penchant for committing fouls, Florida State (which hosted the first game) attempted 14 more free throws, a number that will likely be more even tonight.

That was JJ Starling’s first game back after missing seven due to injury. He scored 12 points.

He will be a critical piece for the Orange because one of the customary ways to make teams pay for playing pressure is to drive past them and take the ball to the basket. Starling is Syracuse’s best at that.

The winner faces No. 6 SMU at 9:30 p.m. on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
