The Rumored Next James Bond Movie Release Date Is Shockingly Realistic

The longest gap between James Bond movies was the wait between 1989’s Licence to Kill and 1995′ GoldenEye. But now, following the 2021 release of No Time to Die, that wait could be tied. If one rumor is to be believed, the next new 007 movie could be released in 2027, exactly six years after Daniel Craig took his final bow.

While various developments are underway in the Bond camp, including credible rumors that producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman are taking over the franchise at large, and less clear rumors about a possible new director, the the timeline for the next Bond movie’s release is also in question.

“They [Amazon] are fast-tracking work in the hope it will be in cinemas before the end of 2027,” according to an alleged insider scoop from The Sun. The publication also noted that “The budget of £250 million has been allocated and the desire is for them to start earning back the revenue of their investment.”

If true that would put the budget of the film at $323 million dollars, which would easily make it the highest-budgeted Bond film of all time. That record was previously held by No Time to Die, with a budget of just under $300 million. The “investment’ referred to is the $1 billion purchase of the Bond franchise by Amazon overall.

But, does 2027 seem realistic or even possible at this point? For this to happen, the movie would need to enter preproduction sometime this year, shoot in 2026, and be completely done the following year. Essentially, that’s less than two years for everything to happen; which seems unusually quick, even by today’s standards of franchise sequels being churned out every year or so.

And yet, the timeline might make perfect sense. On June 7, 1994, Pierce Brosnan was publicly announced as James Bond. By the following summer, GoldenEye was in theaters. Daniel Craig’s timeline was similar; the public learned he was Bond on October 14, 2005, and by the following November 2006, Casino Royale was in theaters. Back in the day, Sean Connery Bond movies were filmed back-to-back. In fact, the first four Bond movies ever were filmed and released in four consecutive years, Dr. No (1962) From Russian With Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), and Thunderball (1965.) Even if the new announcement of a new Bond actor didn’t come until 2026, it’s still possible we could see a new Bond film in 2027.

Obviously, the Bond franchise is operating under a new studio, and with a new vision, but just like the fast-paced secret agent himself, historically speaking, Bond movies can be made at an incredible speed. 007 for 2027? It just might happen.
