Two Texas A&M defensive linemen taken in second round of NFL draft

(KBTX) – Texas A&M’s trio of defensive linemen heard their name called in the first two rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Friday, it was edge Nic Scourton and defensive tackle Shemar Turner’s time in the spotlight, both going in the second round.

Scourton heard his name called by the Carolina Panthers as the 19th pick (51st overall). Eleven picks later, Turner was selected by the Chicago Bears as the 30th pick (62nd overall).

Scourton, a Bryan High alumnus, will join Aggies Bobby Brown and Demani Richardson in Carolina.

Out of high school, Scourton signed with Purdue, where he spent two seasons. He returned back to his hometown to play for the Aggies for one season.

In his lone season with A&M, Scourton tallied 37 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and five sacks. His sack total was down from the Big 10 leading 10 he posted the year prior at Purdue.

Scourton entered the second day of the draft as the sixth-best edge rusher available, according to ESPN.

Turner spent four seasons in Aggieland, where he totaled 115 tackles, 24 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. During his senior campaign, the DeSoto native recorded 36 tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks.

However, penalties plagued his final year. Turner led the Aggie defense in total penalties with six, including four of the 15-yard variety.

Head coach Mike Elko addressed the issue in early November. After that, Turner committed just one more penalty the rest of the season.

“The conversation is not going well enough, because it’s not getting fixed,” Elko said of the penalties at that time. “The conversation is you can’t have post-snap 15-yard penalties. They’re selfish. You can’t do it. But I’ve got to find a different way to get that message across, because it’s clearly not working.”

The pair followed Shemar Stewart’s first-round selection by the Cincinnati Bengals.
