UPDATED: At least 3 dead, 3 wounded in Spotsylvania; ‘all suspects in custody’

“Multiple victims” were shot in a townhouse neighborhood outside Fredericksburg on Tuesday evening, leaving at least three dead and three others wounded.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday morning said “all suspects are in custody” and more details will be released today.

The shooting happened in the Old Greenwich Village neighborhood off Lafayette Boulevard about 5:30 p.m., with one neighbor saying on InsideNoVa’s Facebook page that the shots rang out for a minute or two.

Another neighbor reported not being able to get home due to police shutting down Old Greenwich Circle. Residents who were home were asked to stay put while those not home could not get into the neighborhood.

A video reportedly of two young men involved in the shooting circulated on social media Tuesday night, though the sheriff’s office has not verified its authenticity.

The video, originally posted by kayyleennnnnn and shared by VaHipHopNews, shows two gunmen walking down the street carrying rifles. At one point, they turn the other way and run.

“This is an active and fluid investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “At this time, we do not know the ages of any of the victims. We ask the public to please stay clear of the area.”

“We will stay out here until the suspects are caught,” Maj. Elizabeth Scott with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said at a news conference. “This is probably as bad as it could get.”

Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania schools announced a two-hour delay for Wednesday morning “in light of the profound impact this incident has had on members of our school community.”

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred this evening in Spotsylvania. Our hearts go out to all who have been affected by this devastating loss,” the school division said on its website.

“This delay will allow us the necessary time to prepare our buildings and staff to welcome students with the care and support they may need during this difficult time,” the statement said.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
