CHICAGO (WGN) — Chicagoans making their way through Streeterville Monday may have noticed a giant orange crate sitting in front of the Tribune Tower. What exactly is it?
According to a spokesperson speaking on behalf of Activision, the giant crate is a promotion teasing the return of a popular Call of Duty: Warzone map, Verdansk, on Thursday, April 3.
Measuring 17-feet-six-inches long, eight feet wide and eight feet tall, the crate is a Warzone loot drop box that weighs approximately 2,400 pounds and was created in the image of the ones players come across while playing Warzone.
Fans and players of the Call of Duty franchise can visit the crate at 401 North Michigan Avenue (Pioneer Court), where they can take a selfie with the hashtag #VerdanskReturns and scan a QR code for in-game perks. Players will also be able to grab exclusive Return to Verdansk swag, according to the spokesperson.
Call of Duty will go live with a picture of their desert crate across their social media accounts on April 3, where they will tease hidden battle pass codes and release a riddle for “a legendary prize.”
On top of the loot drop box found in Chicago, there are three more spread around the globe to promote the return of Verdansk. Those loot drop boxes can be found in London, Los Angeles and Paris.
Verdansk, Call of Duty: Warzone’s original battle royale map, was rebuilt from the ground up for Warzone season 3. The spokesperson said the map will return with original POI’s and authentic, back-to-basics gameplay with improvements to audio, visuals and gameplay from the original map.
According to callofduty.com, COD players who played Verdansk when it first dropped in March 2020 should instantly recognize the map that became a fan favorite five years ago.
