Yankees kick off opening day with home game against Brewers
NEW YORK (PIX11) – It’s baseball’s opening day on Thursday and the New York Yankees are kicking off the season with a home game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
With starting pitcher Gerrit Cole out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, the Yankees will give the ball to Carlos Rodón for the opening day start. The team’s new closer is Devin Williams, who spent his first six seasons with the Brewers before being traded to New York in December.

He’s one of several marquee names the Yankees acquired after losing Juan Soto to the Mets in free agency. The Bronx Bombers also added outfielder Cody Bellinger, first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and starter Max Fried.
Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells are coming off solid spring training camps to keep the plate moving. Players to watch include Jazz Chisholm Jr. and 22-year-old Jasson Dominguez in his first full big-league season.
Fans are encouraged to take mass transit to Yankee Stadium, as streets will be shut down by the NYPD for opening day festivities. The game starts at 3 p.m.
